We live in Michigan and my mom is from Texas. I remember going to the corner store a mile away in 1963 after going for a swim on a hot summer day, her opening the pop cooler, the old kind that had chilled water in the tank, and pulling out one of the old green tinted bottles in triumph. Due to the name, she bought it a few times before I tried it, and didn't drink any other soft drink unless I didn't have the choice for years. When we drove to Texas one year, we stopped at a Mickey-D's in Missouri, and they had it on tap. I was extatic.
Dick Clark did ads for them for 'HOT Dr. Pepper' with a slice of lemon floating in it and a cinnamon stick stirrer...so disgusting! We begged to be able to try it, then regretted ruining a bottle of soda!
