I used playing cards because I didn't want to ruin my baseball cards.

A friend of mine had a bike with a siren. When he pulled a chain that hung from the handlebars, a mechanical gizmo would swing up and contact the rim of the front wheel, causing a rotary sound thingee to spin. The faster he'd ride, the higher the siren's pitch.
