Would you believe that Louis Armstrong recorded a version of this in 1968? It's true!

The whole Davy Crockett phenomenon was so iconic when my brother and I were growing up that when I was called upon to produce a song for my brother's 50th birthday bash many years later, I wrote multitudinous verses about his life to the rhythm of the theme song ("Born in a a hospital in Pasa-Dee, entrepreneurial when he was only 3", etc). It worked perfectly.

I was nine years old when this record came out--all the kids in my neighborhood were soon wearing coonskin caps...
