I HATED those ugly shoes! My 2 older sisters & I had to wear the gawd awful shit brindle- brown colored ones! I remember a couple years after my parents divorced, & I was starting 7th grade, Dad & I went to get my school shoes. And I went to grab a pair of saddles & my Daddy says: " You're NOT getting a pair of those shoes are ya??" ME: "I'm not??? Yeaaaa...Joy Joy!! I instead got my first pair of sling-back pumps!!!! Thank Ya Daddy!!!!
A Little funny? PS: My daughter was about 14-15? & wanted a pair of black/white ones for school!!! Who woulda thunk it??!!!
I had a pair when I was in 6th grade and loved them. I remember having to polish them with white liquid shoe polish - the bottle had a foam applicator on it. You had to keep shaking the bottle to keep the liquid mixed. I felt like I was whitewashing my shoes. Funny, I don't ever remember polishing the black 'saddle' part of the shoe.
My mom bought me a pair cause she was a "Bobby-Soxer" & I HATED them cause they rubbed the back of my foot when I walked;I think I finally threw them on a neighborhood lawn while walking home from school.
I always wanted some of these. When they were in fashion I was too young - by my mother's standards, anyway - she bought me sturdy brown leather oxfords that I HATED (except I loved the smell of them drying on the register on rainy November days). But I REALLY wanted saddle shoes, "like the big girls"!
Hated them. I never seemed to grow out of them. I didn't mind penny loafers but really craved rainbow colored sandals. Not practical to the parents though.

They were part of our uniform at school.I loved them.I thought I'd buy some for my daughter, now, they are SO expensive!
Loved them!! That's all I wanted to wear when I was a kid. I had black & white and brown and white. I cried when my mother made me stop buying them and get some mary janes.
