Dad used to like this and brought it home. I think it was a cultural thing he grew up with. I didn't care for the smell so avoided it, but one day risked a couple of crumbs... hmm, interesting. Came to like it eventually, but only indulged in limited doses.
I remember having Halvah once. I immediately spit it out, yuck, never again.

It never occurred to me that some people don't like Halvah, not that I've ever done a survey. Birds like it, I suppose because of the sesame content.
Allan Sherman used the only Halvah simile I know of in his "Streets of Miami" in which he shot and Sam crumbled "just like a piece Halvah." There is a copy of the album cover--My Son the Folk Singer--on this site.
