@Jacqui - Recently, I was surprised to learn that Patricia Highsmith, the author of "The Talented Mr. Ripley," also wrote "Strangers on a Train," which was the basis for the Hitchcock film of the same name.
@Jacqui - Seems to me that most films don't measure up to the book they were based on. One exception, in my opinion, would be "The Talented Mr. Ripley". I just read the novel, and feel the film was much better.
Unfortunately, I had read the novel before seeing the movie, and was completely disappointed. To get the full experience of this story, you MUST read the book.
At the end of the movie, Charlton Heston was pounding the sand and yelling, "They finally did it.........Damn them" ( or something of that nature). The Statue of Liberty's crown was in the foreground and I did not understand (???).......so I asked my Dad........Why is he so angry ? My Dad responded....."They are still on the Earth" ! Wow ! That's when I got the message ! I was shocked ! They never left earth or somehow returned to earth at a later time ! It was a GREAT movie ! All the sequels were awful......but this one was by far the best one !

Wow ! That's when I got the message ! I was shocked ! They never left earth or somehow returned to earth at a later time ! It was a GREAT movie ! All the sequels were awful......but this one was by far the best one !
